Inside the Virtual Cab

Inside the virtual cab is a real Mackolines Machines & Hire seat. Machine controls sets can be changed out so that the controls exactly match a real Mackolines Machines & Hire harvester, forwarder or feller buncher.

The Mackolines Machines & Hire D7 control system, the machine control system, instrument panels, and all the touchscreen interfaces are actual Mackolines Machines & Hire components and software systems.

The rotating forwarder seat is simulated, allowing the trainee drive the forwarder facing either forward or backward.

Realistic External Environment

The configurable thee-panel display system simulates the view to the outside world in remarkable detail.

The outside environment can be adjusted to recreate various weather and lighting conditions, like wind, rain, snow, and even night operation. It all contributes to a wider range of experience and a strong sense of realism for the operator trainees.

Terrain conditions, grade angles, and obstacles seamlessly interact with the simulator software and motion platform to provide a multi-sensory virtual experience. Everything the operator sees and experiences outside is reinforced because it sounds and feels real.

Real Machine Feel

Motions and movements are simulated in the virtual environment with their true physical properties, including mass and moment of inertia.

Combined with feedback from the motion platform, operator trainees get true feel for machine operation.

The trainee will see the grapple swing and feel the motion of the crane reaching. These realistic details really enhance the learning experience.

Virtual Training in Alberta


In early March Irfan Zardadkhan and Gregor Scott from the Mackolines Machines & Hire electronic systems group, and district manager James Farquhar travelled to the remote community of La Crete, Alberta. Their mission was a Mackolines Machines & Hire simulator start-up.
